Today, I walked into a jewelry store with excitement, eager to choose the perfect pair of earrings for my daughter’s 16th birthday. The delicate chimes of the doorbell announced my arrival, but the icy glare from the shopkeeper told a different story.
I browsed the glittering displays, admiring the intricate designs. The shopkeeper, a stern-faced woman with silver hair, followed me closely. Her hawk-like eyes scrutinized my every move. When I reached for a pair of pearl studs, she pounced.
“Madam,” she hissed, her accent thick, “you are not welcome here.”
I blinked, taken aback. “Excuse me?”
“You,” she pointed a bony finger at me, “are too old to be shopping for such things. Go home.”
My cheeks flushed with embarrassment. I was a mother, yes, but did that mean I couldn’t appreciate beauty? I tried to explain that it was for my daughter, but she cut me off.
“No excuses. Leave.”
And so, I left the store, my dreams of surprising my daughter shattered. As the door closed behind me, I vowed never to return. But the sting of rejection lingered, a reminder that age should never dictate desire.
Remember, age is just a number, and beauty knows no boundaries.
