A young couple entered the shoe store — a man in an elegant suit and a beautiful woman. At first glance they looked flawless, as if they had stepped off a magazine cover. But a closer look revealed something strange: the man was holding the woman’s hand tightly, as if afraid to let her go, and his face darkened every time she tried to let her gaze linger elsewhere, even for a moment.
— We need red high-heeled shoes, — the man said sharply, without looking at the saleswoman or even greeting her.
— And what is your size, madam? — the saleswoman asked politely.
But again, the man replied:
— Thirty-nine. Quickly, we’re in a hurry.
The saleswoman brought a pair and offered the woman a seat. As she bent down to help her put on the shoes, she suddenly noticed that the customer was desperately trying to catch her eye, slightly moving her foot. When the saleswoman looked down, her heart skipped a beat. On the sole of the woman’s foot, written in red letters, was: HELP.
She quickly realized what was happening and composed herself.
— Madam, does the size fit you? — she asked loudly, so as not to raise suspicion.
— Yes… but I would like to see some other models, — the woman replied cautiously.
— Why others? Take these and let’s go! — the man interrupted sharply.
— They’re not very comfortable. I want to try more, — she insisted, though her voice trembled with fear.
When the man was distracted by a phone call, the saleswoman whispered:
— Do you need help?
— Yes, — the woman whispered faintly.
— Is that your husband?
— Yes.
— Should I call the police?
The woman shook her head:
— He has connections… nobody will believe me.
The conversation ended abruptly — the man was beside her again. But the saleswoman already had a plan to save the woman from her abusive husband

As the couple headed for the exit, the security system suddenly went off with a piercing alarm. The man was stopped: in his pocket they found an expensive piece of jewelry that had “accidentally” ended up there.
A scandal broke out, the police were called. But in reality, the clever saleswoman had slipped the jewelry into his pocket so that the man would be detained, giving his wife a chance.
While the store staff and security restrained the furious man, the woman took her first deep breath in a long time.
She had a chance — a chance for rescue and a new life. She immediately ran out, while the saleswoman sighed with relief.
Later, of course, she would tell the police what had really happened.
